Candle making sink holes around wick or top of candleMore articles
This article assumes some knowledge of candle making. If you're a complete beginner, why not try one of our candle making kits first. They all come with a free "How to make candles" booklet.Sink holes are an unavoidable normal part of candle making. The following are some solutions to quickly fill them in.
Sink holes can form in container and moulded candles.
Top up pour. Melt the remaing wax in your pot and fill the sink hole. To give a uniform finish, continue pouring until the entire surface is covered.
Heat gun. For small sink holes, use a heat gun. Don't heat the sink hole area only. Instead, keep the heat gun moving over the entire surface to give a unifrom finish. The hole will fill as you work.
To prevent or more realistically, lessen the sink hole, try heating your mould or container before pouring. Also, try lowering the wax temperature before pouring.
Making basic candles is not difficult, but getting perfect results takes time and practice. Never leave a lit candle unatended, below or close to other objects. Keep out of the reach of children and animals.
